How to Sound Just Like a Salesperson

November 30, 2007

Prospect - “So now that I’ve told you what we are looking for, do you think that you can help us with this?”

You - “Absolutely!”

(or)

You - “Definitely!”

(or)

You - “You have come to the right place Mr. Prospect”

Answering questions about your capabilities with enthusiastic affirmative responses makes you sound just like a salesperson.

And in so doing, you impact your ability to close the sale, and your reputation.

Why? Because normal people don’t talk like this in normal conversations. People are more likely to trust you, when you come across as a regular person.

A regular person would answer the query with a simple “Sure.” or, “I think we might be able to.”

This sort of enthusiasm demonstrated above, puts you in the position of “chasing” the prospect. How so? Your enthusiasm level is higher than theirs is. This kind of confidence is not “catching”. Rather, it repels prospects. People are experienced and wary buyers today. They know when they are being sold. And they know that when the enthusiasm comes out, they are about to be sold. And the defenses are fortified accordingly.

The Metamorphosis of the Successful Executive . . . Overcoming Professional Stagnation

November 29, 2007

You’re a bright, successful business executive making good money and managing a capable staff of accomplished professionals. You are successful beyond your wildest business school dreams. You’ve achieved much-yet something’s missing. On the surface, life is good-yet you feel tired, drained, frustrated, defeated. Intuitively, you know your life can and should be more fulfilling.

Where do you turn? What can you do?

Four years ago, I reached a point in my career as a clinical psychologist where I, too, was unwilling to put up with any more professional “pain” and stagnation. I wanted more for my life and I knew I could have more. That’s when I teamed up with a personal coach and began my own career transition to the relatively new profession of “Personal Coaching” . . . and I’ve never looked back.

Working with a personal coach provided me the direction and support I needed to reinvigorate my own life and change my career-to recapture my voice, my sense of purpose, my sense of direction. It’s something you can have, too. Here’s how.

Electronic Tools for Entrepreneurial Success

November 28, 2007

"Half of any job is having the right tool" was one of the earliest lessons I learned from my father growing up on a farm in Nebraska. As an organizing and productivity consultant, it continues to serve me well.

As a business owner for over 20 years, one of the principles it took me too long to learn was that the reason for owning a business is ? or should be ? to develop something of value that you can one day sell to someone else for a profit.

Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs have a service or product that is, or could be, of great value to others, but their lack of business skills is a huge stumbling block to success. Fortunately, technology is solving much of that challenge. In my experience, there are three electronic tools that are essential to creating a business you can someday sell: (1) a contact management program, (2) a financial management program, and (3) a filing system management program. These three programs will manage all the aspects of the administration of your business ? and provide a method for you to get out from under the mounds of paper that harass most entrepreneurs!

How Prince Connects With His Target Market!

November 27, 2007

While Internet legend (and young pup) Frank Kern would have you believe that I’m so old I should be confined to a wheelchair, I’m still on the good side of 100! And I can stil enjoy a good concert from time to time.

My daughter - Rachel, my wife and I had the good fortune to score some last-minute tickets to the recent Prince concert here in Atlanta. The concert itself was nothing short of amazing. Prince is a master musician who really knows how to play to his audience - and play his audience.

Of course, marketing concepts and lessons to be learned are never far from my mind - and this concert was no exception.

Morris Day and the Time kicked off the concert with a few songs to get the crowd revved up. And inquiring minds got the first clue about how they would do that.

In their 30-40 minute set, they mentioned Atlanta, A-T-L or Georgia about 20 times.

Questions like “Are you ready to party…Atlanta?” “Tell me, Georgia, are you ready for a good time tonight?”

Statements like “We love A-T-L!”

No Experience? No Problem!

November 26, 2007

Are you a new graduate with little or no work experience? Sometimes it can be tough to get a job without experience, and how do you get more experience if you can’t get a job?

Well, your chances are better than you think. Even if your work experience is a little weak, you’ve probably got life experience that will help you. After all, it’s not really your job history that employers are interested in — it’s your talents, abilities, knowledge, work ethic and attitude. It’s likely that you’ve developed and fine-tuned these traits through your school work, volunteer activities, and interactions with people throughout your entire life.

The key is to identify your best attributes from your life experience and promote these to potential employers in the right way.

Make a detailed list of all your talents, skills, knowledge and personal qualities. Think about all you’ve done in your life and what you’ve gained from it. For example, if you earned extra money by babysitting or mowing lawns, you gained experience in promoting your services, obtaining customers, negotiating payment, and accomplishing the required tasks while demonstrating self-motivation, punctuality, responsibility and customer service! If you’ve participated in a sport, you’ve shown commitment, discipline and teamwork! And don’t forget to list what you’ve learned in school: computer skills, software applications, math, science, communication, etc.

To Reach Goals: Bypass Resistance & Gather Assistance

November 25, 2007

To reach goals, consider this illustration: If you see roadblocks up ahead on a journey you take a diversion. No one in their right mind would just drive on and hit the obstacle head on just hoping they get through!

Bypass Resistance

When you set a goal and if you are going to successfully reach goals, you need to write down a list of potential obstacles you may face.

Are there people who won’t understand your goal and discourage you?

Do physical limitations or unfavorable circumstances stand in the way?

Then list them, analyze them and develop a strategy.

With a roadblock you can turn off before you get there or go over, under and around.

Do the same with obstacles that may seem to make it impossible for you to reach goals you have set.

Is there any way you can bypass the objects of resistance you are likely to face?

Preparation like this is invaluable.

If and when you reach the obstacle you know what to do.

You have already made up a contingency plan so you can move ahead and reach goals you have set!

Great Groups! - Getting a Group to Think Like a Genius

Wouldn’t it be great to have an Edison or Einstein, or Mozart at your next meeting? If you had a genius at your meeting, do you think you might come up with better results? Let me be the first to tell you that those people won’t be at your next meeting. But there are some things you can do as a facilitator - some techniques and tactics that you can use with the group that will help them work better. In this article you will learn some of the strategies of geniuses (adapted from Thinking Like a Genius, by Michael Michalko in the May 1998 issue of The Futurist), and how to apply them within any group you are working with.

Geniuses look at problems in many different waysThe key to this strategy is helping a group find new perspectives. Often a group gets "locked in" on one specific solution or cause. The goal should be to slow the group down and help them look at their situation from a variety of perspectives. Once a group has an initial approach, encourage them to stop and force a new perspective - force them to re-conceptualize the problem.

The Real Path To Big Bucks On The Internet!

November 22, 2007

“Instead Of Wasting Time Trying To Hit The Lottery Of Internet Riches, Focus On Building Your Business One Sweet Income Stream At A Time!”

Eric (one of my JV partners) experienced an epiphany yesterday. He had one of those rare moments of insight that can forever change your life.

In the 5 or 6 years that I’ve known Eric, the number one question on his mind is how he can find that magical combination of product and website that will instantly create a hundred thousand dollar monthly return. Preferably, without a lot of work.

Then, he tripped over a site yesterday describing how one company had websites that only made between $100 and $200 each. But they’ve got over 2,000 websites. Do the math.

You may have heard the phrase that there’s at least a million ways to make a million bucks. I believe it.

While I am a major proponent of “thinking big,” I’m also realistic.

I didn’t create a massive income overnight from one magical success. Instead, I’ve got a bountiful array of income streams that add up to incredible numbers.
